About Vedaranyam
Vedaranyam is on the coast at Point Calimere, where the shore turns west, beside the Kodiakkarai sanctuary. In 1930 it was the scene of the salt march led by Rajaji, the southern answer to Dandi.
Salt is still made here, alongside fishing and farming. The work depends on weather and season, and many families have someone working far away to make the year add up.
